In 2011 there were 780,000,000 smart phone users world wide. Are they part of your target audience?
Mobile Websites
Why would I need my website accessible to someone on the train, jogging through the park or perhaps even sitting in a cafe sipping a macchiato?
The total number of mobile web users grew past the total number of desktop computer-based web users for the first time in 2008. There you go, there are more phone users than computer users. With smartphones able to do everything useful that a desktop can do (find a date, order a pizza, order some wine, post how your date went on Facebook & Twitter) many businesses are building dedicated mobile sites.
Basically a mobile site mirrors the functionality of its full desktop targeted sibling with most of its excess weight cut away (images, heavy scripts, style sheets), leaving you with the raw functionality of the site customised for use on a smaller screen. Also, you must take into account, new mobiles and devices feature touch screens. Interfaces need to be designed to best utilise the tactility of "touch" using gestures, sliding, multi touch and pinching over the traditional keyboard and mouse.
Unlike the desktop web experience, where screen space is not at a premium, bandwidth is fast and reliable, and data input is easily facilitated by keyboard and mouse, the mobile web experience is often a small screen, intermittent, one-handed experience. This means leaner content but it also leads to opportunities unavailable in the desktop web environment, such as location-specific data.
Mobile Apps
Aside from mobile versions of your site, we can also produce dedicated mobile apps. These have many advantages over a website, such as: faster content load times, keeps you on your customers mind and access to more of the device’s functionality (camera, file uploads, direct notifications, etc).
At Digicon we develop apps for iOS (iPhones / iPods / iPads) and Android (phones / tablets).
